No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Near Monte Vista

No-Gi strips Jiu-Jitsu down to its rawest form — no grips, no lapels, just technique, timing, and pressure. Great for kids who want a faster-paced session and anyone preparing for competition or cross-training from wrestling.

Monte Vista practitioners who want faster-paced, wrestling-based grappling train no-gi at Gracie Barra Alamo Heights. Without the traditional kimono, the focus shifts to body control, underhooks, and submissions that work in any situation — including real-world self-defense. Professor Edgar and Professor Zaza bring a combined 33 years of mat experience to no-gi instruction. Eight minutes from Monte Vista to the mats on Austin Highway.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is no-gi Jiu-Jitsu and how is it different from gi training?
In no-gi Jiu-Jitsu, you train without the traditional kimono. Instead of gripping collars and sleeves, you use underhooks, overhooks, and body locks to control your opponent. The pace is typically faster, transitions happen more quickly, and techniques rely on body positioning rather than fabric. At Gracie Barra Alamo Heights, no-gi sessions complement the gi curriculum by exposing different aspects of grappling and building a more complete skill set.
When are no-gi classes at Gracie Barra Alamo Heights?
Gracie Barra Alamo Heights offers adult and kids no-gi classes on multiple days throughout the week. Check our schedule page or call (210) 864-7909 for the most current class times and days.
Is there a BJJ gym near Monte Vista or Tobin Hill?
Gracie Barra Alamo Heights is about 8 minutes from the Monte Vista and Tobin Hill neighborhoods. Head east on Hildebrand or north on Broadway to Austin Highway -- we are at 1464 Austin Hwy, Suite 100, San Antonio, TX 78209. While Marra Senki BJJ targets this area, they are located 8 miles away. What is the class schedule like for someone working in Midtown or Monte Vista?
Our weekday schedule is built for working professionals. Adult BJJ and No-Gi classes run in the evening block from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday. If you work from home or have a flexible schedule, Saturday mornings from 9 to 11 AM are another option. From the Pearl or upper Broadway, you can be at the academy in under 10 minutes.
